Partnerships, Programs, and Projects
While the development of projects and opportunities will be ongoing throughout the year, please save the date for the following opportunities with community partners and organizations. More details about how to participate with your family will be distributed in the Tuesday Bulletin as the dates approach!
September 21, 2019: Ballona Creek Coastal Clean-Up Day
Ballona Creek and Heal the Bay’s Coastal Clean-Up Day is Saturday, September 21st from 9AM –12PM! Join us in Syd Kronenthal Park to participate in the Ballona Creek Coastal Cleanup Event as a community. We’ll provide the supplies you need (i.e., gloves, bags).
FYI, Echo Horizon School is featured on the Culver City website as a community partner in this endeavor. Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, land, animals, and water from trash and debris. Locally, it’s coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors, and Heal the Bay.
November and December: Mar Vista Family Center
The mission of Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) is to provide low-income families with quality early-childhood education, youth enrichment, and educational tools to create positive change in their lives and their communities. Every program adheres to the basic premise that it is critical to empower children, teens, and adults to play vital and responsible roles—as decision makers, community leaders and advocates, mentors, classroom volunteers, and fundraisers—at MVFC.
Echo Horizon will be partnering with Mar Vista Family Center on several projects, both connected to grade-level curriculum and community-wide engagement. We will participate again in a voluntary Adopt-a-Family project during the holiday season. Details for participation with be provided in late November and early December.
November: Westside Thanksgiving Community Dinner and Celebration
We will be volunteering to support the Westside Thanksgiving Community Dinner and Celebration (date and time TBA). We encourage you to coordinate with other families from your child’s classroom to volunteer together.
December 20–23: ONE VOICE LA
Each year, the ONE VOICE Holiday Food Program provides Christmas food baskets, toys, and books to 2,500 families (12,500 people) living in poverty in the Los Angeles area. All of the families are referred through the Head Start Program and meet federal and state-mandated poverty levels.
Traditionally, on one night of the Holiday Food Program weekend, the kid-friendly hours for volunteering with families are 7:30PM–9:00PM. Echo Horizon School will invite available families to join together and meet at this wonderful community event!
April: Mar Vista Family Center Literacy Fair
Echo Horizon School will be partnering with the Mar Vista Family Center to support and participate in their annual Literacy Fair! Join Mar Vista Family Center families in celebrating books, reading, storytelling, and arts from cultures all over the world.
May: Big Sunday
At Big Sunday, they believe that people can connect through helping. As they love to say, “Here’s the thing: we believe that we’re all in this together. That’s why we offer an enormous variety of opportunities and projects that unite people to improve lives, build community and give everyone a sense of belonging.”
Echo Horizon will be exploring the best projects for a Big Sunday partnership in our neighborhood during May 2020.
