    Book Fair
    • The Book Fair is also next week and students will be attending with their classes Tuesday or Wednesday.  Don't forget to send money or a check with them by Tuesday.  Parents can visit before or after school, during both Back to School Nights, or all day Thursday.
    FOR PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN:
    Book Fair FAQ:
    What is the Book Fair?
It is an annual event held for a week each fall in the Echo Horizon library. Book Safari brings in a variety of books for children (all grades and reading levels) and adults, and a percentage of the proceeds from the sales go to Echo Horizon School.
    How does it work?
Each class will visit the Book Fair with the teachers on either Tuesday, September 16 or Wednesday, September 17. They will have 30 minutes to browse and make purchases. Teachers, librarians and parent volunteers will be on hand to help the children manage their money and make selections. If a child wishes to purchase more books than they have money for, they will have the opportunity to fill out a "Wish List", indicating which books they were interested in. They will then bring that list home to their parents, and parents can either send in additional money with their child on Thursday, September 18 or else purchase the books themselves.
How much do the books cost?
Books range in cost from around $3 to upwards of $35, depending on the book. Sales tax is added to final purchase. Note that these are all NEW books, and that the Book Fair is different than the Used Book Sale that takes place in the library each spring. Hardcovers, picture books and larger reference-type books are on the more expensive end, while paperbacks and "easy readers" for beginning readers are less expensive. Each child can bring in a maximum of $60 to spend during classroom visits.
What are the teacher wish lists?
Teachers make a list of books that they would welcome as additions to their classroom libraries. Parent volunteers can direct you on how to purchase if you are interested.
    How do I participate?
Send in money (maximum $60) with your child, using the envelope that will be sent home on Tuesday. Make sure you fill out the front information and SEAL the envelope, and turn in to your child's teacher no later than the morning of 9/16. You may send your child in with cash or with a blank check (made out to Book Safari). If you send a check, please indicate on the envelope the maximum amount your child is allowed to spend. Additionally, if there are restrictions you would like to place on which books your child can purchase, please indicate that on the envelope.
Will there be additional opportunities to visit the fair?
Yes. Students may also visit on Thursday, 9/18 before or after school, during recess and/or lunch, or any other time during the day with their teacher's permission. Parents may visit before or after school Tuesday and Wednesday, during Back-to-School night, and all day Thursday during Parents Day.

    Kindergarten Helpful Tips & Reminders

    Hi Parents,

Liz, Christina and Samantha met with both classroom teachers this morning to discuss everything from holiday party "likes and dislikes" to field trip dates. Here are a few key points and some reminders for the year. Please let Samantha know if you have any questions or concerns.

    Field Trips:
    • Parents do not attend
    • The kids ride on a school bus with all the teachers and the teaching aids so there is plenty of supervision
    • Dates:
      • October 27 - Pumpkin Patch
      • Feb 3 - Zimmer Children's Museum
      • April 27 - Natural History Museum
      • TBD - Echo Station
    Halloween Carnival:
    • On Halloween - October 31st
    • Kids DO NOT dress up
    • Please bring a re-usable bag that can handle the weight of a few decorated mini pumpkins, prizes and some treats
    • We have 2 booths to work - parent volunteers are needed - more info to come later in the month
    Holiday Parties:
    • Following school policy there should be no kid to kid gift exchanges or gift bags given to the class
    • Gift exchanges between families that are friendly outside of class should be done off school property
    • There will be fun items which you can help provide for the kids such as cookies and decorating supplies or grab bag items etc. More info on that will come as we approach the party dates such as Winter Program, Valentine's Day & End of School
    Classroom Presentations:
    • THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO SEE YOUR KID DURING THE SCHOOL DAY :) (While they still want you to show up)
    • Coordinate with your classroom specific teacher but you will present to both classes at the same time
    • Presentations can be your hobby, your profession, your religion, or a special skill you have
    • Can you draw or paint? Are you a fireman? How about a sign language lesson? Do you take salsa lessons - can you teach them a few steps? What about teaching the children how to make a traditional food eaten by your family at the holidays?
    • NO obligation - just a fun time if you are interested. You can even coordinate with the letter of the week!
    • Example - Letter "F" - do you take flying lessons? How about a presentation on flying and the kids make & decorate their own paper airplanes!

Here's what's coming up for the upcoming short week!
    GRADE-SPECIFIC:

1- K Costumes for Winter Program - If you are like me & you needed some clarification on our costume theme - Latin America - here it is directly from Cathleen Wolff the Arts & After School Enrichment Director:

"I’d like to leave it open ended so that the parents can outfit their children as they choose.  The most important thing for parents to understand is that they should not spend any money on this, that they should use whatever is in the closet.  Any items(s) that represent Mexico, Central America, South America or Spain & Portugal are perfectly fine.  A child can even dress in the flag colors of the country they wish to represent."
