JEDI in Action
JEDI conversations are infused throughout our curriculum. From Pre-K’s “Colors of Us" project, to our class novels, such as 4th Grade’s El Deafo by CeCe Bell, to 6th Grade’s capstone Purpose Learning course, JEDI topics are covered in developmentally appropriate ways PK-6. We are always revisiting our curriculum and looking for new ways to share more perspectives and stories. Our work is informed by research and highly experienced JEDI practitioners in Los Angeles and beyond.
In addition to weaving JEDI throughout our curriculum, we have reserved Socioemotional Learning and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (SEL/JEDI) blocks in our K-6 schedules. During this time, teachers use our SEL curricula as well as lessons designed to meet Social Justice Standards from Anti-Bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves and Learning for Justice. Our Directors, JEDI team, and SEL Committee support teachers in this work.
Finally, we celebrate each letter of JEDI with a special day, where all teachers address diversity, inclusion, equity, or justice in their classrooms, and we experience school-wide activities and assemblies highlighting these themes. We also host family events on these special days.
