Collaborative Grade Level Auction Art
Every scholar uses a variety of artistic techniques, as well as an array of mediums, throughout their years at Echo Horizon School. This year, each class collaborated to create these beautiful pieces for our auction.
This collection celebrates individuality, creativity, units of study, and mastery of skill. These pieces will be auctioned live at the Spring Affaire, Saturday, April 20th.
Special thanks to Visual Arts Teacher Kristen Reyna and Maker/ STEAM Coordinator Sam Patterson for your dedication in supporting our artistic scholars on these masterpieces.

Pre-K in the Mirror
Pre-Kindergarten artists observed themselves in the mirror, looking at the shapes that make up the different parts of their faces. They drew themselves using a black marker. They were introduced to American fiber artist Bisa Butler and observed how she used expressive color in her portraits. Pre-K artists then painted their self-portraits using expressive color watercolor paint.

The Heart of Kindergarten
Kindergarten students discussed what the image of a heart represents and learned how to cut a symmetrical heart out of paper to create a stencil. They rolled and pressed ceramic clay, experimenting with various tools to press lines and shapes into the clay pieces to create patterns and texture. Once they were happy with the surface of their clay, we used their original heart stencil to cut out a heart and finally added color using glaze.

1st Grade Cityscape
Inspired by the architecture of Zaha Hadid, First grade artists thought about where artists get their inspiration and took on the role of architect. They created drawings of buildings inspired by Zaha’s work and a variety of things from a monster to an octopus. Dr. Patterson lazer cut their buildings out and we composed them on a canvas painted by the first graders.

2nd Grade Weaving It All Together
Second graders learned how to make a loom and practiced weaving yarn using the over/under technique. They became so confident, engaged, and Zen while weaving that they asked for more. Realizing anything could be a loom, we turned jewelry boxes into mini looms, and the second graders quickly created mini weavings experimenting with different colors, textures, patterns, and designs.

3rd Grade Texture Tiles
Third-grade artists observed a variety of relief sculptures across diverse cultures and artistic traditions. Drawing inspiration from these sculptures, each student crafted an original clay tile, utilizing a slab of clay as the foundation and experimenting by shaping clay coils and sculptural details to form a geometric relief tile. To add color everyone was invited to propose a color palette for glaze and the class voted on the palette they thought would look best.
