Dr. Sam Patterson became a valued member of the Echo Horizon community in 2016, assuming the role of Maker/STEAM Coordinator. Holding a BA in English and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois, he furthered his education with an MFA in Creative Writing from San Diego State University, and a Doctorate of Literacy Education from the University of San Diego.
With a dedication to fostering innovation and embracing technology, Dr. Patterson orchestrates dynamic and technology-infused learning experiences. Notably, he is the author of the book "Programming in the Primary Grades: Beyond the Hour of Code." His commitment to educational advancement has been recognized through presentations at prominent conferences including ISTE and SXSWEDU, as well as featured speaking engagements at regional and national gatherings.
Dr. Patterson is an instrumental figure in nurturing a diverse community of makers within the multiage setting of Echo Horizon School. Moreover, he leads the school's robotics team, inspiring students to explore the realms of robotics and engineering. Driven by a profound belief in Echo Horizon's ethos, he envisions the school as a nurturing and inventive space where young minds flourish by engaging with novel concepts and tools.
