Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
JEDI Work is
For Everyone
Our school was founded on inclusion, when our founders set out to create a program—and later a school—where deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) scholars could learn and grow alongside their hearing peers, supported by a dedicated community. This commitment to inclusion has grown into our Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI) work, which is more than a program—it’s part of who we are. From their earliest days in Pre-K, scholars learn to celebrate their identities, honor differences, and engage in meaningful conversations about the world around them. Woven throughout the curriculum and supported by dedicated JEDI lessons, assemblies, and community events, scholars build empathy, pride, and a strong sense of justice.

Echo Horizon JEDI Statement of Values
Hatred and racism in all forms are unacceptable and reprehensible. At Echo Horizon School, we will continue to speak out and take action toward racial equity and social justice. Our beautiful diversity is a source of strength, excellence, joy, and creativity. We stand in solidarity with those who have been historically marginalized in our fight for a just and humane world. We celebrate you, we see you, we love you, and we are infinitely better because you are part of our community.
Our JEDI Mission Statement
Echo Horizon School is a community that celebrates and honors every unique individual member and the multifaceted experiences that they bring to the school. We believe that embracing our diversity leads to social/emotional and academic excellence. Our curriculum reflects the depth of our commitment to diversity and to a global and multicultural perspective. We actively seek to understand the complex and rich identities of self and others, and to lean into difficult topics related to diversity and inclusion. This pursuit and belief prepares our students to be contributing members of an increasingly diverse and global world.

JEDI FAQ's
JEDI work is a shared commitment at Echo Horizon School. Every member of our community brings a unique identity, perspective, and lived experience into our shared spaces, and honoring that diversity is essential to who we are.
As a co-enrollment, full-inclusion school—where approximately 15% of our students are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), 43% of our students identify as students of color, and families represent more than 40 zip codes across Los Angeles County—we are intentional about ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and a true sense of belonging.
Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion are thoughtfully woven into the fabric of our school in developmentally appropriate ways at every grade level. Our JEDI work is guided by a collaborative community approach: faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and caregivers all play an active role. The JEDI Committee brings together adults from across the school, while both the Parent Association and Board of Trustees maintain dedicated JEDI subcommittees. Parent Affinity Spaces further support connection, reflection, and dialogue, and teachers engage in ongoing JEDI learning both in their classrooms and as adult learners.
At Echo Horizon, JEDI is not an initiative—it is a practice, a responsibility, and a shared value that strengthens our entire community.
