Flourish- Mindful, Social, and Emotional Learning

Our Leading to Wise Effort, Ethical Action, and

Community Well-Being

At Echo Horizon School, mindful, social, and emotional learning is central to who we are and how children grow. We intentionally nurture kindness, care, and ethical behavior across our entire community—students, educators, and families alike.

These skills are woven throughout every part of the school day, from academic learning and specialist classes to unstructured moments like lunch and recess. Research consistently shows that children with strong social-emotional skills thrive academically and develop greater focus, emotional regulation, and empathy. Mindfulness practices further support well-being by reducing stress and helping students engage more fully with their learning and one another.

The result is a joyful, connected school experience. Echo Horizon students collaborate thoughtfully, build meaningful relationships, and carry these essential life skills beyond the classroom—preparing them not only for academic success, but for a balanced and compassionate life.

Flourish Traits

Our Flourish Program: Mindful, Social, and Emotional Learning, Leading to Wise Effort, Ethical Action, and Community Well-Being, highlights traits that we value and weave into the fabric of the school. The Flourish Program's nine traits are:

  • Curiosity
  • Empathy
  • Kindness
  • Optimism
  • Interconnectedness
  • Introspection
  • Growth Mindset
  • Gratitude

These traits are explicitly taught, incorporated into all subject areas, and modeled by teachers and staff in their interactions with students and each other. A different trait is formally celebrated each month at an all-school Morning Meeting and anchors the curriculum for our Pre-K/5th grade and Kindergarten/6th grade Buddies Program.

A Whole-Child Approach to Mindful, Social, and Emotional Learning

We draw from four curricula/practices, as well as ongoing professional development, to prioritize mindful, social, and emotional learning.
