Strong Academics
The Echo Horizon Way
At Echo Horizon School, strong academics are built on a thoughtful balance of tradition and innovation. Our curriculum emphasizes foundational knowledge and skill mastery while integrating research-backed, forward-thinking instructional practices. As insights from brain science and child development continue to evolve, so does our approach—ensuring learning remains both rigorous and responsive.
Students are active participants in their education, engaging in interdisciplinary study and inquiry-based exploration grounded in clear academic expectations. This dynamic approach supports deep understanding while nurturing creativity, adaptability, and intellectual confidence. Through strong academics paired with meaningful inquiry, students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and empathy—preparing them to navigate challenges with curiosity and purpose.

UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute)
At Echo Horizon School, our literacy program is grounded in the science of reading and built to support every learner with clarity, confidence, and joy. Using the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Foundations curriculum in Kindergarten–Grade 2, students receive explicit, systematic instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, fluency, and spelling—key building blocks for strong, confident readers and writers.
Our Foundational Literacy Initiative pairs research-based instruction with high-quality materials, including decodable texts and hands-on word work, and is delivered by educators trained in UFLI and LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling). This approach allows teachers to closely monitor progress, differentiate instruction, and ensure students build automaticity and comprehension alongside a love of reading and writing. Through UFLI, Echo Horizon students develop the skills—and the confidence—to become capable, fluent readers and expressive writers.

Writer's Workshop
Writer’s Workshop is used in grades Kindergarten–6 and pairs seamlessly with UFLI. It is designed to develop confident, capable writers with strong voices and purposeful skills. Students learn that writing is both a creative and disciplined process—one that allows them to express ideas, share knowledge, and communicate effectively with a real audience.
Through explicit mini-lessons, guided practice, and independent writing time, students build essential writing skills across genres, including narrative, informational, and persuasive writing. Instruction focuses on idea development, organization, craft, revision, and editing, helping students understand how writing becomes stronger through thoughtful feedback and reflection.
Teachers provide regular one-on-one and small-group instruction, allowing teaching to be personalized and responsive to each student’s needs. Mentor texts are used to study strong examples of writing, giving students practical models they can apply to their own work. Revision is introduced early and revisited often, helping students see writing as an evolving process rather than a single finished draft.
Writer’s Workshop fosters independence, perseverance, and pride in students’ work. As students progress through the grades, they learn to write with clarity, purpose, and confidence—skills that support success across all subject areas and beyond the classroom.

Dimensions Singapore Math
At Echo Horizon School, Singapore Math provides a clear, cohesive approach to mathematics for Grades Kindergarten–6, building deep understanding and confident problem solvers. Rather than focusing only on memorizing procedures, Singapore Math emphasizes why math works, helping students develop strong conceptual foundations that grow in complexity year after year.
Students move through a thoughtful progression—from hands-on exploration with objects, to visual models, and ultimately to abstract reasoning. Core concepts such as number bonds, part–part–whole relationships, and bar modeling are introduced early and revisited across grades, allowing students to apply familiar strategies to increasingly sophisticated ideas like fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages.
A hallmark of Singapore Math is flexible thinking. Students are encouraged to solve problems in multiple ways and explain their reasoning using words, models, and numbers. This approach builds true math fluency—rooted in understanding rather than speed—and strengthens students’ ability to communicate their thinking clearly and confidently.
.Instruction is supported by ongoing collaboration, reflection, and responsive assessment, ensuring lessons meet students where they are while challenging them to grow. Through Singapore Math, Echo Horizon students develop persistence, curiosity, and a lasting confidence in mathematics. This approach empowers students to think flexibly, reason deeply, and approach math with confidence and curiosity.
