Find yourself transported back in time to September 9, 1850, the birthday of California as it entered the Union as the 31st State. Back then, as they do now, people travelled far and wide, from as far away as Asia and Europe, from New York and New Mexico, over perilous terrain to find their dreams! California was, and still is, the Land of Dreams. From the pioneers of the California Gold Rush to the pioneers of the Silver Screen, dreams do come true in California! On April 17th, 2010, we invite you to join us for a memorable night as we celebrate 160 years of Statehood.
As you may know, the cornerstone of Echo Horizon School’s Parent Association fundraising efforts lies with the Annual Spring Event. Last year, we were successful in grossing over $200,000. We understand that the continued poor economy may make it difficult for many businesses and families that traditionally support our school, however, our continued success depends on your active participation. We have tried to create many ways in which you can be involved, here are just a few:
FAMILY SPONSORSHIP – Our families who make Spring Event contributions will be recognized as Family Sponsors and will receive benefits in accordance to their donation level. Some employers may have an employee donation matching program.
Your assistance with corporate connections to acquire products and/or services such as printing, entertainment, floral arrangements, cocktails and wine are greatly appreciated. All sponsors will be acknowledged at the event in accordance with the level of sponsorship. Please refer to the attached sheet for more information.
ACTIVELY SOLICIT DONATIONS – vacation homes, studio screenings, unique experiences (i.e. walk-on television/film roles, a day *on the set*, chef’s tables). Think of the businesses you patronize such as florists, restaurants, gyms, airlines, travel agents, movie theatres, department stores etc. The funds raised from these donations support the school’s programs.
PROGRAM & DEDICATION BOOK – Celebrate your child’s success at Echo Horizon; boost the visibility of your business, place a congratulatory ad – be creative!
VOLUNTEER – We welcome anyone who would like to assist with the event. In addition to seeking Auction Solicitation Committee Volunteers, we are also seeking volunteers to be Liaisons in their respective grade. Liaisons will disseminate Spring Event information and will report to the Spring Event Chair.
ATTEND THE EVENT! For the third year, we are maintaining the individual ticket price at $150 each and are hoping to make this a record year for attendance.
If you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear from you. You may contact Mary Presser at mtp8897@gmail.com or 310-663-6438.

Dear Friend of Echo Horizon School,
On April l7, 2010, we will host our annual Spring Fundraiser entitled “California! Land of Dreams,” celebrating of 160 years of Statehood, at the Downtown Jonathan Club. This event raises funds to support our extraordinary educational and scholarship programs.
Echo Horizon is a leading independent elementary school that educates hearing and deaf and hard of hearing children in an inclusive environment in which self-reliance and mutual respect are valued and encouraged. Our uniquely diverse student population, of which approximately 10% are deaf or hard of hearing, brings lessons of inclusion to the entire student body. The National Association of Independent Schools recognized our Echo Center with its Leading Edge honor that “showcases best practices and model programs to inspire and motivate other schools across the nation.”
Can you donate a product or service to our silent auction?
Our families are very aware of who supports our school, and this represents a good opportunity for visibility for your company in our community. Over 300 parents, grandparents and friends will participate in our fundraiser as organizing volunteers and attendees. We are proud of our children and of our program, and we appreciate your willingness to stand with us as we celebrate our success.
I hope that you will consider placing an ad in our Program & Dedication Book.
You can communicate with our entire parent body as well as our extended school community. Please return your order by February 12, 2009.
Learn more about the event at www.echohorizon.org/springevent. If you have questions, please contact me at (310) 663-6438 or mtp8897@gmail.com. On behalf of the Echo Horizon School community, thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mary Presser

I love you, California, you're the greatest state of all
I love you in the winter, summer, spring, and in the fall.
I love your fertile valleys; your dear mountains I adore,
I love your grand old ocean and I love her rugged shore.
chorus
I love your redwood forests - love your fields of yellow grain,
I love your summer breezes, and I love your winter rain,
I love you, land of flowers; land of honey, fruit and wine,
I love you, California; you have won this heart of mine.
chorus
I love your old gray Missions - love your vineyards streteching far,
I love you, California, with your Golden Gate ajar,
I love your purple sunsets, love your skies of azure blue,
I love you, California; I just can't help loving you.
chorus
I love you, Catalina - you are very dear to me,
I love you, Tamalpais, and I love Yosemite,
I love you, Land of Sunshine, half your beauties are untold,
I loved you in my childhood, and I'll love you when I'm old.
chorus
When the snow crowned Golden Sierras
Keep their watch o'er the valleys bloom.
It is there I would be in our land by the sea,
Ev'ry breeze bearing rich perfume,
It is here nature gives of her rarest,
It is Home Sweet Home to me.
And I know when I die I shall breathe my last sigh
For my sunny California.
